The band would like to introduce our Musical Director, Rebecca Wilson Paterson.
Rebecca Wilson Paterson is a professional trumpet player hailing from Ayr in the southwest of Scotland.
She began playing the cornet in the Dalmellington Junior Band where she progressed through the ranks at youth level and adult level.
She is currently the principal cornet of the Dalmellington Band.
Rebecca began studying at the Junior Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in 2013 where she took up playing the trumpet under the tutelage of Brian Foreshaw. She went on to study trumpet performance at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland where she gained both her Bachelor's Degree and Master's Degree.
Whilst a student at the RCS, Rebecca had the privilege of learning from some of the finest educators and trumpet players in the country, namely Nigel Boddice MBE (formerly BBC SSO), John Gracie (formerly RSNO), Peter Franks (Scottish Chamber Orchestra) and Mark O'Keeffe (BBC SSO).
During her studies she was involved in numerous projects and performances. Highlights include trips to the Victoria International Arts Festival in Malta with the RCS Brass 10 piece ensemble and performing as a soloist with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.
She was also a winner of both the David James Prize for Brass and the Governor's Recital Prize for Brass.
Rebecca has gone on to work as a freelance trumpet player with small ensembles and orchestras such as the BBC SSO, RSNO, Scottish Ballet, Scottish Opera and Malta Philharmonic Orchestra.
She is also a founding member of brass quintet Aura Brass who in 2019 gained a place to compete in the inaugural Philip Jones International Brass Ensemble Competition.
Alongside her freelance career, she works as an Instrumental Instructor for a local council area where she continues to develop her passion for youth development in music.
